Greene County finished the high school softball season with a 13-13 record overall and 5-9 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams won a postseason first round game for the second time in the last three seasons and Paton-Churdan graduate Carmyn Paup was the lone senior on the team.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s team started 1-6, then righted the ship and went 12-7 the rest of the way. In the last seven games the Rams were 5-2.
The team batting average was .251 and the Rams scored an average of 4.27 runs per game while allowing 4.08 runs per contest. Greene County allowed 49 unearned runs and the pitching staff’s earned run average was 2.71.
Coach Kennedy sees a bright future with so many players with varsity experience eligible to return including one of the larger classes of seniors, which could be as many as five in 2023.
