Iowa State Fair 4-H Qualifiers

The fun and entertainment for the 2022 Greene County Fair continues tomorrow.

The morning activities include the 4-H/FFA Swine Show in the showering, along with the 4-H/FFA Rabbit Show at 8:30am in the bus barn. The morning livestock and animal shows wrap up with the 4-H/FFA Horse and Pony Show at 11am in the horse arena. Barnyard games return to the fair at 2pm, north of Clover Hall and the Story Hour with the Greene County Libraries Association begins at 3pm in Clover Hall.

Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway adds another activity everyone can do is a coloring contest with several age divisions, including infant to kindergarten, 1st-3rd grade, 4th grade and older, and an 18+ category that takes place in Clover Hall.

“And you can color a picture and leave it there. We will get it hung and those will be judged Friday afternoon, and winners will receive a prize. So if you’re interested in doing that, we’ll have some colors available and coloring sheets. That is just another opportunity for you to do things at the fair.”

Extension Director Lori Mannel talks about this year’s 4-H theme and invites everyone to come out to the fair.

“This is the theme for every 99 county fairs going on across the state: “Building the Future.” So you may see a little bit of construction work when you go through Clover Hall and each (4-H) club decorates their booth. We have all kinds of shade, all kinds of festivities for families and support these kids. They work really hard all year and this is done by countless numbers of volunteers. So it’s truly a community event and we hope you can come out and enjoy it.”

Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Lil’ Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from the fair tomorrow from 10am-6pm, as we make announcements, pass along results and interview individuals who are at the fair.
