Preparations from the City of Jefferson will be going on this spring before the initial construction begins later this year by Hy-Vee Incorporated.
Since the announcement was made official that Hy-Vee would build a new location in the City last March, City Administrator Mike Palmer says they won’t start construction of the 32,000 square-foot facility until this fall due to delays with their other projects throughout the state.
He assures everyone that Hy-Vee is still going to build its 24-hour supermarket at the intersection of North Vine and Adams. Palmer adds that Hy-Vee demolished and cleared its site last year and laid white rock down for the foundation.
He notes that there will still be work going on at Hy-Vee’s site in prior to them starting their construction in early fall.
“There’s still going to be activity out there. The City is going to be putting in water lines, they contracted that to happen last year (but) had to pull up for the winter. But King Construction will be back in and they’ll start putting water lines in and I’m hoping as we get a little more thaw on the ground, that they can come in there and get their work completed.”
The new Hy-Vee location will have a HealthMarket department with natural and organic products, a bakery and kitchen area and Hy-Vee officials say the new store will create full- and part-time jobs.
