One US Senator is hoping to help farmers in a variety of ways.

Senator Charles Grassley co-sponsored two bills that recently passed out of the Senate Agriculture Committee that addresses fairness in the beef industry. He explains the issue that beef producers are facing across the region.

“Mostly Midwestern cattlemen that want to negotiate prices, they can’t do it now that they would have a market and get a fair price.”

The two bills that passed out of committee were the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act and the Meat Packing Special Investigator Act.

Grassley says they are also working on next year’s farm bill and current topics such as the price of diesel fuel and fertilizer prices are being considered. He points out that there’s one quick answer to lowering diesel fuel prices right now.

“I’m just preaching that the President (Joe Biden) needs to reverse his energy policies that he put in place last time that shut down any expansion of drilling in the United States, and use of fracking, and not loaning money to energy companies.”

Grassley adds one important topic he’s been hearing from farmers in regards to the farm bill negotiations is keeping the crop insurance program how it is currently operating.
