isu-extensionThe Guthrie County Extension & Outreach Office has a new staff member that will help the organization with its programs this spring and summer.

Current DMACC student Emily Seidl has joined Extension to help primarily with 4-H projects over the next few months, and needless to say, she’s back in her old stomping ground.

“I graduated from Coon Rapids-Bayard in 2013.  I was very active in 4-H and FFA; I was in 4-H for all my years since 4th grade.  I was president of the Highland Hustlers 4-H Club and Vice President of my FFA chapter in Coon Rapids.  I was always active in the county and somewhat on the state level, and I’m currently still the 2013 Guthrie County Fair Queen.”

Given Seidl’s extensive ties to Guthrie County and the Extension Office, she says she’s most looking forward to impacting area youth with some of the knowledge she gained during her own 4-H days.

“I feel like, in this day, so many kids don’t know exactly what they want to do.  There was a point in my life where I didn’t know, but I feel like the Extension and 4-H and all the programs they provide give kids knowledge and opportunities to learn about what they do and don’t like; what they would or wouldn’t like to do.”

Just a week into her new position, Seidl says she’s loving the Extension Office experience and she’s looking forward to a fun spring and summer with area youth.

The rest of the Extension Office staff invites everyone in the local area to stop by and welcome Seidl as she continues to get acclimated to her new role in the community.
