Fireworks are a big part of celebrating Independence Day for some but a fire department warns about the dangers.

Yale Fire Department Lieutenant Logan Wolf says the important thing is respecting city ordinances when it comes to fireworks. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that keeping a safe distance from the firework is crucial.

There is a seven foot per one inch size setback. So what that means is for every one inch. Of all your shooting off, there is a seven feet back that everybody else has to be aside from the person lighting it. So that’s a good if you’re putting on a display for family and friends, you got to keep everybody so far back. Depending on what side of the shell you’re shooting on.”

Wolf also says to keep the stock pile of unused fireworks a safe distance away from any fuse or fire. He encourages everyone to keep an eye out to where embers are flying due to the dryness right now.
