The second softball meeting this season between Perry and Greene County didn’t last nearly as long as the June 6 game at Perry when the Rams won 10-7 in 14 innings. This time it was the regulation seven innings with the Jayettes winning 4-1. The Jayettes are now 12-10 overall and 7-6 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference while the Rams are 10-12 and 4-9 in the league.
Perry took advantage of three third inning errors, had two of their three hits in that frame, and scored four runs to overcome an early 1-0 deficit. Sophomore pitcher Macy Tunink was outstanding, allowing an unearned run that scored in the first inning on a passed ball. She struck out six, walked three and did not hit a batter. Three of the four hits allowed came in the last two innings and two of those were on the infield. Eighth grader Karagyn Whelchel had a run batted in on a single, sophomore Aidyn Hood had an RBI single and sophomore Calli Steva had an infield hit. Steva also threw out a would-be base stealer. The Jayettes played good defense with just one error as they evened the season series at one win apiece.
