The Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library  partnered up with the Guthrie Center Park and Recreation, City Street Department and Friends of the Library to unveil a new activity for all ages.

Library Director Jeri Hawkins was proud to announce they have established a permanent story walk at the Raccoon Riverside Park Monday afternoon. Hawkins said this will allow anyone to read a story a page by page from 12 displays placed along side the park’s track at anytime. She explained that story walks have been very popular with a lot of libraries.

“And you’re seeing more and more libraries doing it now. So I really feel honored and I think it’s just really special for Guthrie Center to have this at this park that’s kind of been underutilized for quite a while, and it just gives families another place to go and they can talk during the story. I mean, it’s really encourages some family time.”

Hawkins encouraged people that participate in the story walks to scan they QR code with a smart device and that will tell the library how many people are using the story walks. She said they will change out the book every month and if anyone wants to sponsor a book to contact the library.
