City of Casey community members are coming together to push for improvements to their park.

Casey Grant Committee Member Kacey Peterson says the Casey Service Club did a survey in 2017 asking residents what community improvements they wanted. She says one of the most popular responses was improving Casey City Park. Peterson describes the feedback they got from the survey.

“Our citizens really wanted a safe place where they could exercise, where they could walk, where they could take their dogs if they wanted to and we also know that our youth do not have safe opportunities to ride their bikes and walk around town because our sidewalks, like many small communities, are not in the best condition.”

Peterson says there will be multiple tiers to improve the city park but the first phase will be adding a walking path as well as upgrading the bathhouse, campsites and the shelter. She adds other phases will include new playground equipment, a kickball field, bleachers, picnic tables and much more.

“When we looked at what we wanted to get done in the park we broke it up into phases that would be more feasible as a volunteer organization to actually accomplish for fundraising purposes but also just in kind donations and getting people to make this happen.”

Peterson says they did receive the Wellmark Foundation Grant for $100,000 along with a Guthrie County Community Grant for $10,000. She explains they’re close to meeting their fundraising goal for phase one of $250,000. The project is still looking for any type of a donation and that can be made with the links below.
