The Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce was a recent recipient of a T-Mobile Hometown Grant that helps 100 communities in the nation.

The T-Mobile Hometown Grant awards up to $50,000 to 100 communities a year in the United States to help them build, rebuild or refresh community spaces that foster local connections. The Adel Chamber received a $41,566 grant from T-Mobile.

Chamber Director Deb Bengston says the grant is paired with contributions from the Adel Rotary Club and $9,700 from the Dallas County Foundation to help with phase one of improvements to Pedal Plaza, which will be named Adel Rotary Plaza after completion.

“We are going to be able to make it bigger and better. Put in more picnic tables, some shade covered benches, some interactive signs and musical instruments which adds a(n) art component to it, which we all know how important art is to our community.”

Bengston tells Raccoon Valley Radio the hopes are to have phase one of the project completed by the end of August. She says this was a competitive grant and they are excited to have received it. Bengston says they were roughly the 723rd grant that was submitted.

“This isn’t something that is just a few people submitting. We went through a big process to be chosen and we can’t be more thankful to T-Mobile for choosing Adel with their grant.”

Bengston says there will be other phases to the project as they hope to add some sun shades in the future.

A check presentation with the Chamber and T-Mobile will be on Thursday, June 23rd from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Pedal Plaza, with the alternate location at Adel Public Library in case of inclement weather.
