
The Stuart City Council met on Monday.
The Council approved a purchase of two fire trucks for the Stuart Fire Department for $360,000 and a request from Ruby’s Pub and Grub to block off a street.
The Council approved a new hire of Steven Martinson for the public works department with the starting wage at $17 an hour. Also, the Council approved an agreement with Iowa Code Enforcement to increase the rate to $1,000, approved the cigarette permits for fiscal year 2022, an ordinance for the restricted use of all-terrain vehicles and golf carts, Hotel and Motel Tax proposal committee as presented and Board of Adjustment appointment of Trevor Nelson. The Council heard updates on the nuisance violation on the Burger King property and removal of 190 ash trees in the city right of way.
The Council tabled the proposal for a local adult softball league and the 2022 manhole rehabilitation project for further evaluation along with a proposal to close a portion of South Gaines Street for no representation.
The Council set multiple public hearings for the Safes Routes to School project and 2022 street improvement project for July 11th.
