Saturday’s short-lived thunderstorm in northern Greene County brought some surprises with it.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams shares what happened when the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northern Greene County just after 5pm Saturday.
“We just had a significant amount of hail in the northeast part of the county, along with 60-70 miles per hour winds, and a few funnel clouds coming down from it also.”
Williams notes the quarter-sized hail damaged some of the newly planted crops on farm fields, but no other property damage was reported nor any injuries. He adds there were no confirmed tornadoes in the county, only funnel clouds that formed with the storm that moved through the county in 20 minutes.
Williams says thankfully the storm didn’t reach Jefferson during the Bell Tower Festival, but he talked with Events Team Chair Philip Heisterkamp and plans were in place in case the storm moved into the city.
