The first home victory for the Greene County High School softball team was also the first time Coach Tom Kennedy’s team recorded a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference win. Both came on Friday night as the Rams had a complete performance in topping West Marshall (State Center) 8-1 at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway in Jefferson. The Rams are now 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference while the Trojans fall to 1-4 and 1-3.

Junior pitcher Emma Hoyle allowed just two hits and struck out a career best 14 batters, while walking just three and hitting one with a pitch. Hoyle also doubled off the fence in centerfield to drive in a run and singled.

The Rams had 10 hits and just one error. Eighth grader Becca Anderson singled twice and junior Paige Teeples doubled in two runs to deep centerfield and she also singled. Olivia Shannon, Alexa Peters, Carmyn Paup, and Emma Stream each had a base hit. Chanlyn Cunningham collected an RBI on a bunt.

The Rams scored three times in the third inning and three in the fourth. They added the final two runs in the sixth. The lone WM run was unearned and took place in the third inning.

Greene County travels to Bondurant this morning to face Bondurant-Farrar, a Class 3A top 10 rated team, followed by a match up with Pleasantville.
