The West Central Valley High School Criminal Justice Club finishes up another fun year with the Stuart Police Department.

Sargeant Katie Guisinger says that the students involved enjoyed a lot of fun opportunities that include field trips to the Hawkeye Police Academy, Division of Criminal Investigation in Ankeney and took a tour of the state capital along with other activities like adopt-a-highway, K9 and drone demonstrations and community give back events. Guisinger tells Raccoon Valley Radio the club has been successful in creating interest in many career fields.

“All students are welcome, whether they’re interested in a specific career or they just want to learn about it. The Criminal Justice Club is very wide ranging because criminal justice is definitely not just law enforcement. It’s your legal system, your juvenile justice system, your Department of Human Services, your social workers, mental health, all those things can be a part of law enforcement, you know, even our first responders rescue.”

She says one of her club members has graduated and will move forward with law enforcement as a career path. The program has concluded for this school year, but Guisinger is looking forward to starting it up next school year in the fall.
