Dallas Center – Grimes boys and girls track and field were looking for a big first day at state in Des Moines, and were able to get it, finding a state champion in Aiden Ramsey in the 3200 meter race.
Ramsey came in as a favorite for the race and he delivered, putting up a time of 9 minutes 22 seconds, winning the race by more than eight seconds in a dominating performance. Ramsey will be looking for more hardware in the next couple of days.
In other results for the boys, the boys 4×800 finishes as a state runner up, finishing with a great time of 8 minutes 4 seconds. Daniel Onwuramaka finishes 6th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.91 seconds. Ben Every finishes 17th in the 3200 meter relay race with a time of 10 minutes 35 seconds. The boys shuttle hurdle finishes 9th with a time of 1 minute 2 seconds.
On the girls side, Kileigh Lachacz finishes 6th in the discus throw with a mark of 126-08. Maddy Stevens finishes 11th in the girls 3000 with a time of 11 minutes 40 seconds. Alex Hofbauer sets a PR in the 400 meter dash, finishing 15th with a time of 1 minute 2 seconds. The girls 4×800 meter relay team finishes 4th with a time of 9 minutes 50 seconds.
