Studies are still being done before a covid vaccine is developed for the youngest population.
Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says a covid vaccine is not currently offered for kids younger than five. She explains why there’s been a delay in the federal government rolling out those vaccines.
“Back in mid-February the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) decided that maybe we need to slow down this thing a little bit and look at the data from the ongoing trials of the three dose series of the covid vaccine of the children that age. When kiddos or anybody that’s in a trial for vaccines like that, once they finish off that third dose in the trial, then they need to be followed for two months after, before the data can be submitted to the FDA for consideration for approval.”
Wolf is hoping for those vaccines to be available sometime this summer because the virus continues to impact our lives.
