After an incident that occurred this past Tuesday that resulted in Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn receiving a gunshot wound to the upper thigh, the Perry Hy-Vee is stepping up in support of the Perry Police Department.
Store Manager Nate Brokaw says after the incident that occurred the Perry Hy-Vee wanted to find a way they could support the police department and are doing so by selling specially made bakery items that will send 10-percent of the proceeds to support the police department.
Brokaw says they have had to frequently restock the specialty baked goods as the community has shown immense support. Brokaw says the specialty items will be restocked throughout the rest of this week as Hy-Vee continues to support the police department.
“It just brings a focus to it because it just shows how important the police department is to us. That’s where Hy-Vee we feel like we always need to step up and be part of that because it is pivotal now for us to be a focal point to help any way we can for that police department.”
Brokaw tells Raccoon Valley Radio another event will take place tomorrow with the Perry Police Appreciation Day. Brokaw says a business by the name of Totally Rolled Ice Cream out of West Des Moines will be at the Perry Hy-Vee from 1-8 p.m. and will be donating 25-percent of their proceeds in support of the Perry Police Department. Brokaw says the grill will also be rolled next to the Totally Rolled Ice Cream truck and 25-percent of the sales from the grill will go toward supporting the police department as well.
Perry Mayor John Andorf says he is glad that there has been such a good response from the community after this incident occurred.
“I’m really proud of the community that we are seeing such great support for Chief Vaughn and the police department. I heard about the even early on Tuesday and I was shocked to hear that we had a shooting of Chief Vaughn in the line of duty. I am so glad that there’s been such a great outpouring of support and I’m really not surprised because Perry is a great community and they do support it’s citizens and the police department. It’s an example again of Perry Pride.”
