Dallas Center – Grimes and Norwalk girls soccer faced off on Tuesday night between the top two teams in 2A, and the Mustangs were able to keep their undefeated record in tack with a 2-1 victory to knock off the top team in the state. The Mustangs with the victory move to 15-0 on the season.
Olivia Cyr was able to bury the game winner with just over seven minutes left in the game, as she was able to get the rebound off of a missed penalty kick to give the Mustangs the lead. Avery Korsching was able to put up the first goal of the game in the first half as DCG was able to have a 1-0 lead at halftime. Norwalk was able to even the score early in the second half, but DCG was able to make one more play throughout the night, and hold the high octane attack of Norwalk mostly at bay.
For the Mustang girls, they have more games coming up in the future and the postseason looms as well, but they were able to make a major statement on Tuesday as they take sole possession of first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
