A new monthly program happens this week that focuses on bringing Greene County area veterans together.

Greene County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Bierl says a monthly coffee event will be held the second Thursday of the month from 8:30-9:30am at Dunkers by Matt in Jefferson. He invites military veterans to the first free coffee event this Thursday, where he will explain the purpose of having these coffees and answer questions from veterans about services or other topics. Bierl explains why he wanted to start this kind of program.

“Part of what brought that about was the Veteran Outreach allocation that we get from the state every year. So we want to do something to get the veterans together. Another part of why it’s coming about is the Greene County Suicide Prevention Coalition has a new goal of connectiveness, and we thought this would be another good reason to get together for a monthly coffee with veterans. Especially after the pandemic where people didn’t get together much.”

Bierl adds there will be periodic speakers that will share insight into different services and resources that are available to veterans. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided and no pre-registration is necessary.
