It’s National Nurses Week and Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson acknowledges all of its hard working nurses.

Chief Nursing Officer Susan Moore says nurses embody what it means to give of yourself to others to make them better, get them help or get them what they need.

“That service, often, can take a toll and is also something that we just often take for granted. This gives us a special time in the year to set aside time to honor all the people that have done so much for the patients and their families.” 

Moore says the pandemic was an incredibly trying time for nurses at the medical center, both professionally and personally.

“People are extremely tired and we totally understand why because there’s not been that time to recharge. Just about the time we think we’re going to recharge, then it recurs again. So it has definitely taken its toll and part of the way we try to help staff is by making sure they get the time they need away, but also by honoring them.”  

Greene County Medical Center recently announced its DAISY Award winner, which is given to a nurse who exemplifies extraordinary service. This year’s recipient is Sandra Stoneburner with Long Term Care. National Nurses Week is May 6th-12th.
