Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Cindy Axne made her way to Perry Wednesday to talk about her agenda for prosperity in rural Iowa.

Axne was joined by USDA Rural Development State Director in Iowa Theresa Greenfield as well as Perry Mayor John Andorf to discuss her rural prosperity agenda. Axne says the agenda features a package of legislation she will be pushing Congress to pass that will help rural communities in Iowa with issues such as the police force and broadband among other initiatives.

“Then of course establishing an Office of Rural Prosperity within the White House itself so that within the walls of the White House where the decisions are being made and the administration is having discussions the voices of Iowans can be heard. The objective is really to do this,  make sure that our rural communities prosper.”

Andorf tells Raccoon Valley Radio it’s exciting to have lawmakers who are supportive of assisting with economic development. Andorf says the agenda will be helpful to the many development projects in Perry including the airport extension among others, while also helping with any further economic development as well.

“She (Axne) talked about childcare, we certainly need more of that. She (Axne) talked about investing in housing, we certainly need more housing in Perry. Because one of the problems is developers want to come to have more industry and businesses but a big part of that is they need housing. Housing developers from the Des Moines Metro don’t want to come to the smaller communities. So, if she can do anything to encourage some of that further development it will really help communities like Perry.”

Axne is also the founding member of the New Democrats Rural Investment Taskforce and is a member of the Rural Broadband Taskforce.
