U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne
With a leaked draft opinion outlining the potential for trying to overturn the landmark women’s abortion rights decision of Roe v. Wade, Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Cindy Axne is against such actions.
Roe v. Wade was decided back in 1973 and was made by the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled that the U.S. Constitution protects a pregnant women’s rights to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. Axne says she doesn’t agree with the government being involved in these kinds of decisions.
“It’s striking that after decades of law that protected a woman’s right to choices being made for her own body that this is even being looked at from this perspective. It was very unfortunate to see this. I don’t believe the government should force women to have pregnancies, I don’t believe the government should be involved in people’s personal freedoms. I’m going to fight for that every step of the way, that should be a decision between a woman, her family and her doctor and that’s how I think it should be kept.”
