It’s National Tourism Week and for Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community, they are ready to welcome guests from across Iowa and beyond.
Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn says they had the four finalists for the Ring Out for Art contest bring their sculptures to be put on display on the southside of the Greene County Courthouse. The artists are from Iowa, Colorado and Maryland. McGinn shares the comments these professional artists had to say about the activity in downtown Jefferson.
“Every single one of them will say, ‘This is the coolest community we’ve been in,’ or ‘I can’t believe you’ve got all this artwork here downtown. And that your community supports it so much.’ But they are just so taken with the community. They think, ‘This is just so awesome.’”
Tourism Team Co-Chair Pat Richards tells Raccoon Valley Radio they have eight day trip itineraries that people can check-out as well.
“You can find different ways to travel with themes, but also give you ideas for just a day trip to Jefferson. For example, there are day trip centered around the Lincoln Highway, disc golf, art around the square, bicycling, Legends and Lore, bird watching, shopping, eating, and a trip to that famous Deal’s Apple Orchard.”
A link to the itineraries can be found below.
Additionally, the iconic Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower is also open on the weekends in May from 10am-4pm. Admission is $3 for adults and youth 18 and younger are free, due to the sponsorship of Lois and Dean McAtee Trust.
