The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, Bob Ausberger asked the Board about the secondary roads department property in Scranton along the Lincoln Highway. It was mentioned that no decision has been made about what to do with the current facility on the property, but that the county would most likely retain possession of it because of it being a part of the DNR’s Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) program. There is no threat of there being anything leaking at this time, but the amount of liability would deter them from selling it.

Then, after an almost one hour discussion, the Board voted 3-2 in favor of a letter of support for Greene County Development Corporation to apply for a federal Rural Innovation Stronger Economy (RISE) grant for $500,000 to be used toward the Greene County Diversity Project. The overall goal of the project is to bring in Latinos to fulfill the over 200 available jobs in Greene County. Supervisors Mick Burkett and Tom Contner voted “no.” This was a reconsideration of the letter which the Supervisors voted 3-2 against last week. Supervisor Dawn Rudolph changed her vote from last week of a “no” to Monday with a “yes.”

The Board also approved the sheriff’s quarterly report of fees, the first reading of a social host ordinance and a Louis Dreyfus funding request for $5,000 to replace playground equipment in Grand Junction. They also set the precinct election official’s full day rate at $175 and an hourly rate of $11.
