Some safety improvements are coming to the Greene County High School area.
The Greene County School Board recently approved a $34,410 bid from Drees Company to install more lighting on the south parking lot to make it brighter and improve motorists visibility at night. Another project is through the Iowa Department of Transportation concerning traffic on Highway 30 and Grimmell Road. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse goes over the details.
“They have secured funding to add some turning lanes at Grimmell Road on Highway 30. So essentially (and) my understanding is what you see in front of the casino entrance, with the extra lanes there that allow people to turn, but yet still go around and continue straight on the highway, that type of lane system will be out at Grimmell Road as well.”
Clouse says the project will be completely done by the DOT. However, Clouse adds after the City requested to reduce the speed on the highway from Grimmell Road to North Mulberry Street, the DOT believes no changes are needed at this time.
