The Perry Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of a downtown business in Perry Friday with the owners and the community.

The Lazy Goose Boba Tea and Ice Cream sits at 1014 Second Street in Perry and was teeming with people during the five o’clock hour on Friday and co-owners Ivette and Mark Drahos were busy serving up drinks and sweets before the ribbon cutting Friday. Evette says the Lazy Goose was born out of their own family tradition and upon moving to Perry she says they felt like it was missing.

“When we moved to Perry we noticed that our family tradition kind of broke apart and that was every Sunday after church we would go with our kids as a family and we had ice cream. So, when we moved here we missed it and we did here and there drove to Des Moines to try to get that but it was kind of hard especially in the winter. So, we decided why don’t we do that, why don’t we start our family tradition again and maybe open a place where someone, somebody else, another family can start a tradition.”

While ice cream and boba are in the name there is also other treats available from the Lazy Goose including cakes, cookies and milk tea. Ivette says since their opening the reception from Perry residents has been good which has kept them busy.

“We couldn’t have asked for more, everyone has been welcoming, they have been supporting. We have been super busy and I have no complaints whatsoever.”
