The Iowa House recently passed a bill aimed at adding protections for mobile home tenants throughout the state.

Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says the bill was passed on a bi-partisan vote in the Iowa House and is something that’s been worked on in previous sessions. Nordman talks about the reason for the legislation.

“We have seen, in recent years, a trend of out of state companies purchasing mobile home parks and then in some cases jacking the rates up to a point where it’s not even affordable to live there. Mobile homes are a form of affordable housing and I think affordable housing is crucial to a state that is having a workforce shortage much like the rest of the country.”

Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio the bill would add protection to mobile home tenants in a variety of ways including adding remedies if landlords are not providing essential services such as water.

“This bill will provide some protections for residents like requiring 90-day notice to any rental fee increase or cancellation of rental agreement.”
