Greene County and Van Meter played non-conference high school soccer against each other on Friday. The girls played in Grand Junction and the boys were in Van Meter and the Bulldogs won both matches. The girls’ score was 13-0 after one half by the 10-goal rule and the boys’ final was 2-0.

The VM girls are sixth in the Class 1A Power Rankings and number 27 overall in Iowa high school girls’ soccer. They scored early and often to improve to 4-1 while the Rams, who are still looking for their first goal of the season, are 0-4. Grace Garrison had four goals and Eden Moore had three goals. Moore now has 15 on the season. The Rams did not have a shot on goal in the contest.

VM had two early goals and the Rams were shut out for the first time on the boys’ side as Greene County fell to 2-1 on the season and the Bulldogs improved to 3-3 with their third straight victory. Coach Carl Behne said the home team scored both goals within the first 15 minutes, then the defense played better the final 65 minutes. He told Raccoon Valley Radio “We could not find the back of the net on only 12 shots and only six on goal. Injuries to (Jose) Velazco and (Nathan) Behne and a couple other banged up guys didn’t help, and track guys being gone left the lineup a bit thin to mount a comeback, but the guys didn’t lack effort in trying. The weekend is well timed after that physical and overly aggressive match.”

Ram goalkeeper Gabe Ebersole had seven saves.
