With the threat of severe weather happening overnight, it’s a good time to review some driving safety reminders.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says driving at night during severe weather provides its own obstacles. He offers these reminders for motorists when driving through downpouring rain, coupled with strong winds.

“Slow down (and) don’t use your high beams. High beams reflect more off of the rain, dirt and stuff that might be flying, actually reduces your visibility. So use low beams, if you have fog lights use those. Other then that, just turn your radio station to a channel that actually covers the weather.”

According to the National Weather Service, Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties are under a moderate risk for severe weather, which includes the possibility of tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds as the main potential hazards.
