The Greene County High School Music Department participated in the return to the in person Iowa High School Music Association State Solo/Small Ensemble contest.
Vocal Director David Heupel says eight students performed solos at Ogden High School this past Saturday. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio four students received a Division I-rating, the highest rating someone can get, and those included Gavin VanderLinden, Kierstin Purdie, Brianna Blasnitz and Daniele Madsen. The other four students received a Division II-rating. Heupel adds he was happy with the results considering that these students had to learn about the festival and what it takes to do well since it had been two years since it was last held in person.
Band Director Wes Anderson says his students decided to wait until their Fine Arts Festival in May to perform their songs.
The solo/small ensemble contest allows students to compete against a rating system rather than each other.
Vocal students results:
Division I- Gavin VanderLinden, Kierstin Purdie, Brianna Blasnitz, Daniele Madsen
Division II- Olivia Hoyt, Grace Hardaway, Greyson Purdie, Lee Lenchanko
