The Greene County girls and boys began their 2022 high school golf seasons on Monday vs. Carroll High. The girls played in Breda with Carroll winning 215-264, and the boys were at Jefferson Community Golf Course with the Rams winning on the fifth score tie-breaker. Both teams shot 178.
Coach Heath Telleen reports the top four scores are used in the team total, but with both at 178, the fifth lowest score is used to break the tie and the Rams had a 48 from Kole Teeples while the Tigers had to use a 55. Carroll’s Drew Munson was medalist for the nine-hole round at 41 on the par 36 course. Greene County had the next two places with Nathan Behne and Joe Carey each shooting 42. Behne edged out Carey on a card-back for runner-up honors. Other scores for the Rams were 47 by both Caden Telleen and Jack Hansen, and a 49 from Max Riley. The coach praised Dave Destival and Elijah Block for having the course and clubhouse in great shape. He added, “I am very pleased with the results tonight. We have much better rounds ahead of us. It was great to have all six varsity players in the 40’s tonight.”
Coach Josh Carlson saw his girls lose, but Alex Miller of the Rams took medalist honors with a tie-break on the number one handicap hole. Miller and Carroll’s Ashlee Danner each shot 50 for nine holes. Other scores for the Rams were 59 by Kathryn Beaman, 73 from Maggie Mikkelson, and 82 for Jocelyn Velazco.
