The Greene County High School Junior/Senior Prom is returning to full in person activities this year.
With prom being canceled in 2020 and then requiring masks and other public health protocols in place last year, all because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year marks the first time prom will be back to pre-covid activities. Junior Class President Olivia Shannon says this year’s theme is “Around the World,” which will be reflected in the decorations with the banquet and dance at the Greene Room events center at Wild Rose in Jefferson.
“For decorations we have a variety of different globes and maps that will be set up. Each table is its own country and so we will have the country’s flag there, along with five fun facts about that country. In addition to the decorations at the table, there will be a table of candy from around the world.”
The grand march is back open to the public and that starts at 6pm Saturday at the high school auditorium and it will also be livestreamed on the school’s YouTube page. The banquet takes place at 7pm with a pasta bar and cupcakes will be prepared by the Ram Restaurant, followed by the dance from 8-11:30pm. After Prom festivities with games and a hypnotist will be at the middle school gym from midnight-2:30am, with the doors opening at 11:30pm. Shannon points out an extra special treat that will be at After Prom.
“I know for sure there is a Mexican-style food truck and in addition to that the foreign exchange students that we have this year have all agreed to making some snacks from their home country. So we’ll be able to try those different foods from Tunisia, Senegal and Indonesia.”
The grand march is open to the public and the doors will open at 5:30pm.
