A major agriculture company recently announced plans to partner with another business for a specialized project.

Landus Cooperative will team up with AMVC, which is the ninth largest pork producer in the country, for a new feed mill at Landus’ existing facility in Audubon County in Hamlin. The feed mill is estimated to produce up to 400,000 tons of swine feed per year, which will consume about 8.5 million bushels of corn and 48,000 tons of soybean meal per year. Since this new venture will exceed the capacity of grain storage in Hamlin, Landus will be using other nearby grain assets, including Panora, which they recently acquired from Heartland Cooperative.

Landus CEO Matt Carstens says this partnership will allow AMVC a better opportunity to control its long-term biosecurity and traceability requirements and Landus can focus on sourcing and delivering quality grain from its farmer-owners.

The agreement includes AMVC owning and operating the feed mill, while Landus will be responsible for originating grain through its network.

Once the mill is fully operational by the summer of 2024, it will employ eight full time employees and 14 local truck drivers.
