The vocal jazz group at Greene County High School returns to a prestigious competition tomorrow.
Ram Jive will compete at the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships at West Des Moines Valley High School. Vocal Director David Heupel says they will be one of only eight high schools in Class 2A to vye for the title of the best vocal jazz ensemble in the state. Heupel tells Raccoon Valley Radio they had to submit a video recording of their performance to be considered for the championships, which they used from a state festival that they hosted in early February.
Heupel shares his thoughts on going back to the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships.
“It will be fun to get back because last year, honestly I wasn’t happy with the recording that we made and didn’t make the field last year. The year before we did make the field, but then covid hit and that got canceled. So everyone got trophies for making it. The last time we performed in it would’ve been three years ago. Good to get back there, I think all of the groups will be excited to be there.”
The other schools that qualified in Class 2A include Emmetsburg, Roland-Story, Okoboji, Treynor, Central Lyon, Maquoketa Valley, and Sibley-Ocheyedan. Click the link below to see the full list of when all the performances will be from Class 1A-4A.
