During Severe Weather Awareness Week this week, it’s important to know what public agencies play a role during severe weather. 

Severe Weather Awareness Week is running until Friday and it’s a time to get people thinking about severe weather as temperatures get warmer. Dallas County Emergency Management Coordinator A.J. Seely talks about their role during such events. 

“The purpose of our team is to help coordinate and share messaging related to severe weather. Obviously, there is minimal things that we can do to prevent the severe weather but we want to message the public as much as possible so that when something is happening we are coordinating with our spotter networks, coordinating with the weather service and then they are taking that information rebroadcasting it to media partners, really helping to share that message so that people can be properly informed and take appropriate action related to the threat.”

Also, the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team will provide live coverage any time there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning in Dallas, Guthrie or Greene counties until the severe weather has moved out of the listening area or has dropped below severe levels.
