There are some staffing changes at the Jefferson Community Golf Course.

The City Council recently approved hiring Jefferson native Elijah Block as the Clubhouse Manager. Block was hired for this position, following the resignation of Micah Destival as the Golf Course Manager. As for the golf course maintenance responsibilities, that falls to the public works department, which the Council approved Dave Destival to remain on staff as the greenskeeper.

City Administrator Mike Palmer explains why they wanted to just have a clubhouse manager.

“We’ve found over time that’s really kind of its own entity, just the clubhouse, because of all the events and things that are booked into the upstairs, keeping track of the memberships, ordering the food, beverages. It’s a job onto itself. So that’ll still be under more just a city administration for now.”

Palmer points out Destival’s position is listed under public works, which allows for some other beneficial factors.

“It gives us much more opportunity to have additional help if he (Destival) needs it out there for equipment, or just to mow, cut trees. Our public works (employees) do a lot of that now. But this kind of unifies them into one team more.”

Block was hired with an annual salary of $30,000 for an eight month contract and Destival will be paid $20 per hour as a full time employee at the golf course.
