Greene County High School wrestlers Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins were among those honored by the Des Moines Sunday Register following the recently completed 2021-22 season. Petersen was named to the 24-member All-Iowa Boys Elite team, including athletes from all three of Iowa’s classes, and was also on the 2A first team. Robbins was on the 14 member Honorable Mention list.
Petersen, a junior, won his second State title, his first for Greene County, when he downed two-time champ Camron Phextzoumphone of Webster City 8-5 for the 120 lbs. title in 2A, capping a 13-0 season, while handing the Lynx his first loss this season and stopping the Webster City wrestler’s long winning streak.
Robbins is a three-time State finalist (one championship, two second place finishes) in three years of high school. He was the runner-up this season in 2A at 132 lbs. and was 45-4 as a junior with all four losses to the Iowa 1A, 2A, and 3A State Champions. He’s 116-6 for his career with every loss to State Champions.
