Greene County Community Foundation

An ongoing fundraising campaign is closing in on its goal.

The Greene County Community Foundation has a goal to reach $30,000 by the end of the month to go toward its endowment fund. Foundation Campaign Chair Chuck Offenburger tells Raccoon Valley Radio they want to reach that goal with 30 volunteer donors and to have conversions with at least five people each about the organization itself with the “I’m with Alice” campaign. He says the campaign followed a generous gift from the Alice Walters estate to the community foundation of a little less than $500,000.

He says they have collected $23,400 and there’s been 110 conversations so far. The $23,400 also includes a recent donation from Home State Bank of $5,000. Offenburger notes the community foundation’s endowment fund allows them to utilize up to five-percent annually to give in additional funds from what Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation allocates to them of typically $150,000. The endowment was at $950,000 before Walter’s gift.

To donate to the foundation’s endowment, checks can be made payable to the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation and dropped off at Home State Bank.
