For perhaps the first time since 2014, U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley held a public town hall meeting in Greene County Tuesday afternoon.
About 50 attended the public meeting at the Jefferson City Hall Council Chambers. Grassley addressed a wide range of issues from the audience including, water quality and ethanol as part of the farm bill, big tech monopolies, defense spending, veterans benefits for specific disability situations, the southern border with Mexico and illegal immigrants crossing over into the U.S., possible vulnerabilities with cyber attacks, Supreme Court justice nominations and keeping jobs and industry in the country.
Grassley is also running for re-election and says he is taking this election very seriously, including those running against him in the June primary election.
“But this is the first time since 1980 that I’ve had a primary. So I’m turning it up because you can’t take anything for granted. People say I don’t have to worry, but if I say I don’t have to worry, then I’m in trouble. So you’ve got to be on top of everything.”
The stop was part of Grassley’s annual 99-county tour.
