Taxes are at the forefront of what lawmakers are discussing in the Iowa Capitol during this year’s legislative session.
State Senator for District 10 Jake Chapman says that Governor Kim Reynolds proposed a four-percent flat tax but Chapman says lawmakers in the Senate are a little more aggressive with the proposed income tax changes.
“We in the Senate are a little bit more aggressive, not terribly more, but our plan is a 3.6-percent flat tax with a mechanism to drive that rate down to zero-percent over time.”
Chapman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the House, Senate and Governor Reynolds have similar proposals when it comes to tax reform in the state which Chapman says is a good thing for Iowans.
“It’s a great sign when the House, the Senate and the governor are all talking about historic and substantial tax cuts. This puts more money in the pockets of hardworking Iowans.”
Chapman says he feels that tax reform will be a very important part of the session this year.
