Friday, March 7th
A deputy initiated a traffic stop for speeding on 130th Street between R and S Avenues and subsequently arrested Justin Richard Jodoin, 23 of Churdan for Excessive Speed, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, 1st Offense and Failure to Maintain Control.
A deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Dudley Street in Churdan for the possible theft of a purse from a vehicle. The deputy and the owner determined that the purse was not taken but put in a safe place within the house.
Deputy Sheriff Shane Monthei, Chief Deputy Jack Williams, K-9 Officer Leo, the Sheriff and Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officer, Justin Mack working in Greene County all responded to a one vehicle accident that occurred in the 1800 block of 235th Street. Michelle Denise Rader Smith, 42 of Jamaica, Iowa, was eastbound in her 2006 KIA Spectra when she drove off the roadway and into the ditch before striking a metal storage shed owned by Robert Thorpe. Michelle Smith was not injured but was subsequently arrested after the K-9 Leo indicated on an illegal substance within the driver’s side of the vehicle. Smith was booked into jail for Possession of Marijuana, Failure to Maintain Control, Operation without Registration and Failure to Prove Security Against Liability. The vehicle was estimated to be a total loss and there was no damage estimate determined to the metal Storage shed.
A deputy was advised of a careless driver entering Greene County from Carroll County on Highway 30. The deputy did initiate a traffic stop for speeding on a vehicle near J Avenue.
Saturday, March 8th
A deputy was unable to locate a reported careless and erratic driver entering Greene County from Boone County on Highway 30.
A deputy spoke to a dog owner in the 700 block of S 11th Street in Grand Junction about his dog disturbing the neighbor.
Sunday, March 9th
A deputy assisted the Jefferson Police Department with traffic control in the 200 block of East Central as the officer performed field sobriety during an OWI investigation and subsequent arrest.
A deputy helped mediate a verbal altercation between two adult males that originated at the car wash in Grand Junction.
A deputy, K-9 Leo and the Chief Deputy Sheriff were all dispatched to a reported vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway on 240th Street and D Avenue with the driver slumped over the steering wheel. Upon the deputy’s arrival he found the driver to be unresponsive. After a search of the vehicle, Zachary James Farrow, 30 of Carroll was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, marijuana, OWI – 2nd offense and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
A deputy was advised of several youth being harassed by an adult female near the Post Office in Grand Junction.
A deputy was asked to check on a vehicle that was blocking the alley in the 500 block of Jay Street in Churdan. The owner was located and agreed to move the pickup.
A deputy was asked to check the welfare of a male subject that was reported to be kneeling along the roadway on Highway 30 near the Hill Golf Course west of Grand Junction. The identity of the male was determined and he indicated to the deputy that he was hitchhiking across Iowa and will be heading west after a short rest. The deputy assisted in transporting the male through the county.
A deputy was advised of a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 just west of S Avenue. A 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck being driven by Troy Nicholas Lester, 22 of Jefferson was eastbound on 220th Street when a deer ran from the north ditch and was struck by the Lester pickup. Damage to the vehicle was estimated to be $5500 to the front of the truck and the air bags did deploy. Troy Lester was not injured in the accident.
In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
