It’s National FFA Week and for the Greene County Chapter, they are also celebrating a milestone.

This year is the 80th anniversary of the local FFA Chapter. Advisor Raelyn Harris says the chapter has grown to 53 active members and explains for the first time in its 80 year history about FFA becoming an affiliate chapter.

“That means everybody who takes an ag class is actually a member of the FFA. Now how active they get in the FFA is completely different. And so we have 53 active members of the FFA, but there’s far more FFA members out there as some of them are just taking an ag class for the fun of it and might not choose to become more of that active side of FFA.” 

Greene County FFA has activities planned all this week. Today FFA’ers are to post on the chapter’s Facebook page their Supervised Agricultural Experience. Tomorrow is a Community Trivia Night at the high school commons, where the public can attend with check-ins at 6:30pm and the game to begin at 7. Tuesday is Share a photo in your FFA jacket, along with a coloring contest at the elementary school, and FFA’ers serving a staff appreciation breakfast. Wednesday is the Car and Truck Show, Thursday FFA’ers are encouraged to make a Facebook post about how FFA has prepared you for life. Friday is a battle with other local chapters, including Glidden-Ralston and Carroll. Saturday concludes the week with current FFA members helping at the Greene County Cattlemen’s Banquet.

“My favorite part is probably being president and doing the activities that we do and planning it. It’s really awesome to take it from starting from nothing and being able to plan everything throughout the week, especially like FFA Week and spending weeks ahead of time to plan something and then seeing the outcome and everybody getting to have fun and do stuff. It’s just really exciting.”
