The second suspect that was charged from a 2021 bank robbery in Scranton was sentenced in district court.
Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn announced that 27-year-old Tyler Mattingly of Carroll was sentenced to ten years in state prison. He pled guilty to a Class C Felony for first degree theft. Lahen argued for ten years, while the defendant wanted probation. District Court Judge Christopher Polking agreed with Laehn’s argument of a ten year prison sentence.
Mattingly was originally charged for first degree theft and a Class B Felony for aiding and abetting robbery in the first degree, after his involvement from a robbery incident with Peoples Bank in Scranton on February 25, 2021. Court documents show Mattingly admitted to making a false accident phone call to law enforcement on the east side of Greene County to draw authorities away from Scranton that is located in western Greene County.
The second suspect, 27-year-old Zachary Michael Wailes of Fort Dodge was sentenced to federal prison for eight years and four months, after pleading guilty to federal bank robbery on June 1, 2021.
Court documents show Wailes entered the bank at 10:47am and left with $20,000 in cash. Bank employees claimed Wailes had a handgun when he entered the bank.
