Seven area high school wrestlers will be on the mats at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines tonight vying to be State Champions. Others will be in today’s consolation rounds wrestling for anywhere from third through eighth place.

Waukee Northwest is the Class 3A team leader through two days of competion with 133 points in a tight team race. Waverly-Shell Rock has 127 and Southeast Polk (Runnels) sits at 124. The Wolves have four finalists in sophomores Koufax Christensen (113) and Carter Freeman (120), along with seniors Griffin Gammell (182) and Ben Reiland (285).

Greene County is in tenth place in 2A on the strength of finalists Kale Petersen (120) and McKinley Robbins (132). Both are juniors.

Ogden’s Kolton Munson, a sophomore, is in the 113 lbs. final in 1A.

Area wrestlers in seventh place matches today are Panorama’s Cooper Anderson in 1A at 220 lbs., Aiden Flora of ADM in 2A at 13w. Waukee NW wrestler Dom Rubino 145 and Waukee’s Blake Hauck (182) are in seventh place matches in 3A.

Those in today’s consolation semifinals could finish anywhere from third through sixth place. They are:
