Greene County juniors Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins both won Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament semifinal matches Friday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Both will be trying to win State Championships for the second straight year.

Petersen topped previously undefeated Lane Scorpil of Columbus/WMU 10-3 in a 120 lbs. semifinal to improve to 12-o for Greene County after transferring from Class 1A West Fork (Sheffield) where he won the 2021 1A title at 106 lbs.

Robbins stopped Union (La Porte City) sophomore 4-2 for the second time in as many meetings this season. Robbins is 45-3 this season and 126-5 in his career with the Rams. He’s been in the finals all three seasons of high school, the only Ram in the 56 year history of the program to do so. He was second at 106 in 2020, first in 2021 at 120 lbs. and is at 132 lbs. this season.

Both Greene County wrestlers face unbeatens Saturday night. Petersen, the number two seed, goes against Camron Phetxoumphone of Webster City, a two-time State Champion, who is the top seed and 41-0. Phetxoumphone won the 2020 106 lbs. 2A title over Robbins. Robbins and Blaine Frazier of Notre Dame, West Burlington will meet for the third time in a year and the second time with a State title on the line. Robbins topped Frazier for the 2A 120 lbs. title last season by a 7-5 score. Frazier is 52-0 and one of those wins was in early December over Robbins 3-2. Robbins is seeded first and Frazier second.
