It’s day one of the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Complete three-day play-by-play coverage of area wrestlers in all three classes can be heard on the trio of Raccoon Valley Radio stations, as well as the www.raccoonvalleyradio.com stream.

Greene County has three qualifiers in 2021 State Champions Kale Petersen (120 lbs.) and McKinley Robbins (132). Both are juniors and are joined by two-time State qualifier in sophomore Gavin Scheuermann (152). The 2A first round starts at 9 a.m. and is immediately followed by the first consolation round. A first round win means a trip to the quarterfinals at 9 a.m. Friday. A first round loss means a consolation match this morning and two losses today means that individual has the tournament come to an end.

Petersen is the number two seed and faces freshman Cole Johnson, Crestwood (Cresco). Robbins is the top seed and he meets junior Caden Kerr of North Fayette Valley (West Union), while Scheuermann is the eight seed and meets Cole Butikofer of Crestwood. Butikofer owns a 5-0 decision on Dec. 5 over Scheuermann at the Independence tournament. Petersen and Robbins have not met their first round opponents.
