The Perry Community School District is continuing to make progress on the ongoing middle school renovation.

The renovation began on the Perry Middle School in May of 2021 and the funding for the project came from a $10 million revenue bond that was approved by the school board. Superintendent Clark Wicks says another milestone occurred this week.

“We are making progress first of all. On February 14th we had our Perry Middle School eat in the renovated cafeteria for the first time. So, that was another milestone that we experienced and it looks beautiful in there and they’ve done a great job in really making what was kind of a dingy atmosphere into a bright and much more colorful and welcoming, inviting atmosphere.”

Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio the next project is the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math lab and computer lab which is in the previous library location that aims to be completed on March 1st. Wicks says there will be other little things that need to be completed.

“We’ll still have some things that we will need to tidy up on. We are working on the locker rooms, we are redoing all the showers and painting it. So, that’s going to continue to get remodeled.”

Wicks says March 1st will see all middle school staff and students in the renovated middle school building.
