A local library plans to open a food pantry soon for those in the community who may need food items.
Minburn Public Library Director Nicole Connick says the plans will be to have the food available during regular business hours at the library.
“I am really excited to get this started and then we are hoping the First of March to have it up and stocked and ready to go and it will be available to anybody who wants to use it all the hours the library is open.”
Connick tells Raccoon Valley Radio the hopes are to have items such as milk, yogurt and fruit items. Connick says a big hope is to be able to have meat or lunch meat or other things that people can come and take home who might need it. Connick talks about the need for the pantry.
“It came from Eat Greater Des Moines when they started bringing us these packages. It’s because we don’t have a really food pantry and we don’t have a farmers market. So, they were coming to communities that didn’t have either of those things and bringing these prepackaged food items.”
