Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced the public health emergency disaster proclamation will end today, and a local lawmaker is weighing in.
House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen says Iowans have learned to live with COVID-19 and ending the proclamation is the next step to getting back to normal.
“We took the proper steps, I think, and we’ve dealt with this as any other infectious disease, and now it needs to be put in that category. I mean, the flu is dangerous, RSV is dangerous, Covid’s dangerous, but we can’t continue to be in this, you know, state of disaster. We need to move on.”
Sorensen tells Raccoon Valley Radio not much will change when the public health emergency proclamation not in effect.
“Because of this action from the governor, you know, the biggest change is that the frequency at which the state has to report numbers related to COVID.”
The public health emergency proclamation has been in effect since March of 2020.
