Three Greene County High School wrestlers earned their way to the 2022 Iowa State Tournament Feb. 17-18-19 in Des Moines by winning Class 2A District 2 titles on Saturday in Glenwood. The 140 miles deep into southwest Iowa south of Council Bluffs didn’t seem to bother juniors Kale Petersen (120 lbs.) and McKinley Robbins (132), or sophomore Gavin Scheuermann (152) as all three were district champions, each going 2-0 on the day.

Petersen and Robbins were 2021 State Champions. Petersen at 106 lbs. in 1A with West Fork (Sheffield) and Robbins at 120 lbs. in 2A. Scheuermann was a 145 lbs. State qualifier last season as a freshman, so all have State experience. It’s the third trip each for the two juniors and Petersen will take a 9-0 record into Thursday morning while Robbins is 42-3 and Scheuermann is 40-6.

Class 2A begins the action at 9 a.m. Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines with first round matches followed by first round consolation matches. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have extensive play-by-play all three days of action covering qualifiers from 14 area high schools and well over 40 individuals.
